Job Summary:
GENERAL ROLE DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for mechanical engineering and energy management design, analysis, and calculations for medium projects with minimal supervision.
CORE FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare mechanical engineering in plumbing and drainage, fire protection design and calculations for projects of medium complexity.
Provide technical direction to in-house engineers and designers, and to outside consultants in the production of construction contract documents.
Manage outside engineering consultants to ensure the quality of work meets with WDI standards. Coordinate end user requirements with the design team and ensure requirements are incorporated in the design documentation and drawings.
Monitor progress of work and ensure that technical quality, interdiscipline coordination and production requirements are met.
Collaborate with Disney global energy management team for incorporation of latest global energy management strategies.
Organize and develop project design criteria and engineering work plans for projects of varying complexity.
Ensure conformance to department standards and procedures.
Become intimately familiar with WDI Division 15 master specifications.
Provide construction support during construction phase for mechanical engineering, plumbing and drainage system, fire protection system installation.
Review contractor submission for compliance with specification and design drawings.
Test and commission energy management and control systems.
May have Engineer of Record responsibility
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an accredited engineering school with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Licenced Engineer status in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering with 4 years post qualification project experience.
10 or more years of work experience in mechanical engineering, with experience in the production and use of contract documents for commercial or industrial projects.
Minimum of 2 years managing a team of mechanical engineers and designers in the production of contract documents for construction.
Experienced in the construction phase with submittal/shop drawing review process and on-site field inspections.
Advance degree in the field of mechanical engineering is desirable.
TECHNICAL AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS:
Working knowledge of mechanical engineering design including industry practices, construction methods and materials, codes, current technology and the preparation and use of contract documents in all phases of design and construction.
Proficient in the use of CAD and BIM technology (Revit) for engineering design, production, and analysis.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, and to thrive in a highly collaborative, multi-discipline project team environment.
Ability to supervise a small team of mechanical engineers and designers in the production of construction documents for projects of medium complexity through all phases of design. Strong written and oral communication skills.
