About the Role:
The Disney China Legal Team is seeking an exceptional lawyer to provide high quality in-house legal services on a wide range of legal matters. This role will primarily provide legal support to Disney Consumer Products business in Greater China, including merchandise and publishing licensing, marketing initiatives, business operation, retail channel collaborations, etc, and may support other business areas as required. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to exercise sound legal skills and commercial judgment in a fast-paced, evolving environment, and have adequate experience negotiating, drafting and advising on legal documents. This Attorney should also have strong knowledge of eCommerce, retail, general commercial and intellectual property laws and regulations of China and should be capable of interpreting existing policies and working within guidelines and defined processes. She/he must be able to liaise effectively with various internal stakeholders and have a strong acumen and understanding of commercial issues and judgment call.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Draft, negotiate and provide advice on various types of legal documents, including licensing and commercial agreements.
- Provide strategic legal support and advice to internal clients and cross-functional stakeholders to support the growth and management of the business.
- Exercise independent legal judgment on key initiatives, provide analysis and recommendation for senior lawyers and business stakeholders and flag key matters for escalation as appropriate.
- Support company response to local authorities.
- Coordination and collaboration with other regional colleagues and external counsels.
- Stay abreast of legal and regulatory developments relevant to the supported business units.
- Attend to other projects and assignments as may be requested by supervisors from time to time.
Experience and Qualifications Required:
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a top-tier law firm.
- Proficiency in both English and Mandarin Chinese, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, legal research and communication skills, including attention to detail, as well as the ability to solve problems in an efficient, business-friendly manner in time-pressured situations.
- Ability to identify and analyze complex issues and devise creative solutions and strategies for resolution.
- Ability to anticipate and understand risks and impacts contractual provisions and agreements may have on a client’s business.
- Strong work ethic, integrity and commitment to professionalism.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients.
- Willingness to take “ownership” of projects and think proactively.
- Ability to work independently as well as with supervision from senior attorney(s).
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload efficiently, effectively and collaboratively under multiple, high-priority deadlines.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in and knowledge of labor law, employment dispute resolution, intellectual property licensing, media/entertainment, retail and/or other FMCG sectors.
- In-house experience at a multi-national company.
Required Education
- Bachelor of Laws degree from an accredited PRC law school.
- Admission to PRC Bar.
Preferred Education
- Master of Law degree from an accredited law school in other jurisdictions.
